Be sure to head over to It's A Very Cherry World where Sue hosts her fabulous reds party every week.
Now, onto my recent red finds
The last time Sister visited, we hit an estate sale in a very strangely designed house. It belonged to two former professors at the University of Oregon and it was HUGE! I think it was 4300 square feet. It had 3 living rooms and the floor plan was just one huge circle. It was very 1960's. We each got lots of stuff and I got this old 6 pack of Dr Pepper to put on top of our vintage Dr Pepper/Pepsi vending machine we have out in our garage.
I got this perfect red Samsonite suitcase at a really dirty, off the road sale. The sale was full of garage sale rejects and this beauty stuck out like a sore thumb. I had to rescue her, and for a dollar, she was mine. You may remember that I picked up the matching train case a while back. If not, you can read about that score here. Anybody out there have any good tricks to getting the old lady smell out of old suitcases?
Sister and I found this set of amazing old canisters at an unadvertised estate sale. The nice thing about this sale was that it was not given by an estate sale company so the prices were dirt cheap and there were tons of vintage treasures to be had. Sister needs to show you the super cute mouse set she got. I got this whole set of tins for $4.00.
Until next time...
Erica
My grandmother had a set of red samsonite suitcases & my mother still has her green set she received as a highschool grad gift in 1974! Ive had good luck spraying a white vineger solution on things that smell "old" let it dry in the sun.
ReplyDeleteYou hit the jackpot on this outing. Everything you found is definitely keepers.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that if you wad up a bunch of newspapers, put them in the suitcase and leave them for a while, then go back to it after a week and do it again...repeating until the smell is gone, the newspapers should pull the odor out.
ReplyDeleteLove the canisters-and what a deal you got. I'm also loving your crates-you can do so many things with those.
ReplyDeleteLove that red suitcase! And the stack of soda crates is awesome. You certainly are a lucky lady to have a husband who will go shop estate sales for you! He's a keeper! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat finds!! I adore those canisters! Don't you just love estate sales that aren't don't by a company? The prices are so much better and they can actually get rid of their things. I avoid most of them because of the prices.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of great finds! Adore the canisters.
ReplyDeleteHappy Rednesday!
That is great that share this same love of junk! (Not really junk to me either) I love your finds! I think that red case is great! I really think Febreeze works good on stuff like this. And leave it to air out open for at least a week! When you store it, try adding some dryer sheets inside! Then it will smell nice and fresh when you open it!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Susie
What wonderful red treasures! I couldn't even begin to choose a favorite!! I was given a bright red Samsonite suitcase when I graduated from high school. How I wish I had it today!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Happy Rednesday!

Unbrewed coffee grounds will take the musty smell out of anything - police use bowls of coffee grounds in buildings where people have died - bet you didn't want to know that, did you? But it works - put an open bowl (pyrex preferably LOL) in the closed suitcase and wait about a week - you'll be surprised.
