Is This Becoming A Thing?

I have noticed that my blog posts are becoming farther and farther apart.  I strive to post at least twice a week but lately it's been more like once!  It's not for lack of junk (thank goodness), or even lack of time.  It's that damn Instagram!  It's just so easy to snap a quick picture and post it for the IG world to see.  As a result, our poor little blog is being neglected.  I didn't even take pictures to share my Halloween decorations!  Oh well, if you want to see those, head to (where else?), Instagram.

Last weekend I flew solo up to Portland for a huge show at the Expo.  Maddie decided to go deer hunting with her dad.  No thank you.  I prefer junk hunting.  I missed my girl but the amount of awesomeness I found more than made up for my lonliness.

You know it's going to be a good show when your first purchase of the day is the larger bowl in the Pyrex Eyes set for seven bucks!

This Hazel Atlas juice carafe has been on my wish list for as long as I can remember.  It was even on my mind as I was driving up to Portland!  I can't believe I finally have it!  The matching juice glass was at the very next booth.

I have become obsessed with the pastel Tupperware tumblers.  They are so durable and pretty!  The flamingo and chick glasses I got at separate booths.  The blue star Swanky Swig was one I didn't have!

The Glasbake handled bowls have really grown on me.  My family uses them all the time so I was happy to add two more to the stack.  When I asked the sweet little old lady at the booth with the Fire King Jadeite refrigerator dish how much it was, she said "Oh, I have to ask at least five dollars for that."  Love it!  The Hazel Atlas striped bowl will join it's red friends on my red Cosco cart and the candle holders will go in a jar with the rest of my collection.

The Gurley Thanksgiving candles will join the rest of their friends when I put out my Thanksgiving decorations later on today.

There was so much vintage Christmas at this show!  So so so so much!!!  I am so proud of myself for only allowing these three things to come home with me.

But when it came to vintage Halloween, all that restraint flew right out the window!

Rounding out my show purchases was all the cuteness!  The Bambi will join Maddie's collection.  I've been pretty lucky finding the chalkware fish lately.  Now I just need to find a good spot for all of them.  The flamingo decals are some I had never seen before and didn't already have in my collection.  And the Lefton bluebird wall pockets?  Another thing on my wish list at a price I couldn't walk away from.

Such a fun show but the treasure hunting didn't end there!  I hit a couple of antique malls too.  More on what I found there next time!

  3. Hello, my name is Francine and I am an Instagram Addict. So fun and so easy to snap a quick pic and post. I am definitely guilty of the same. Also, I'd rather be thrifting, always! Love that turquoise Pyrex, the red Hazel Atlas and that lovely jadeite dish. Great finds!

  4. I would definitely agree that you left the Christmas behind and concentrated on Halloween. Great to see you at Expo and love that show!

  5. You found a lot and it sounds like you got great deals! I haven't figured out how to use Instagram yet. I guess I better get on the band wagon. I think my favorites are the vintage Halloween and of course the Gurleys. I need the Indians for my Thanksgiving display.

  6. Love it all! I would love to find that pumpkin bucket with the mask someday. You really showed good restraint with Christmas stuff. It's easier now though isn't it? I've found that I'm able to walk away from it (sometimes) too. There's just no room in my house and I have most of the things that were on my wish list.
Fun post! Happy to see it tonight!

  8. I totally agree about IG taking over the blog posting. I'm blaming Laurie (Magpie) on getting me hooked. I used to blog 3-4 times a week. I'm lucky to get two posts in lately. Loving all your amazing stuff and I'm super jealous of your Gurley Indian Thanksgiving candles. I have a load of turkeys and pilgrims but can't seem to find those Indians anywhere in estate sale land. Happy November!

  10. It was definitely worth your time to go to Portland. What great things you found! I just enjoy hearing that things have been on your wish list and you found them. I don't know how you keep track of the Swanky Swig glasses.
Looking forward to seeing what you found at the A Malls.

  13. I'm guilty of the same thing, blogging has become secondary now to Instagram! I haven't even read a post in days!! Blogging is a lot of work!

My Mom had a Tupperware party, she ended up with so much Tupperware, those glasses were ones we used all the time!!

Love all your finds, especially the candles!

  16. Wowee! Even without your sidekick you did pretty darn well! The Gurley Candles and Halloween bits are my favorite.
As for blogging regularly, I know it can be a struggle. At the end of the day, you are blogging for yourself. (just about every time I think "that's it, i'm done. No one comments. No one likes the party posts"..) But then I end up going through and reading my horribly misspelled blog, and I'm glad that I kept posting when I could. I try to do 3 a week, and have left with many a "tune in Friday..." cliff hangar. And sometimes there just isn't time. So if no one else tries to persuade you, try to get a post in when ya can! Keep it up!

  17. I know what you mean about Insta! Blogs are more personal, but instagram. So. Damn. Easy. I try to blog about my stuff first & then snap pics for Insta... umm... you crossed quite a few items off my wishlist from this post. Eyes! Would love for find a decent piece of rarer Pyrex!

  18. I've been posting on IG several times a day! I don't know if I'm "ignoring" my blog, per se, but I'm definitely ignoring my FB page. I love the immediacy of IG. Thanks for sharing your finds with TTF. Those eyes!

  19. Oh my! I need to start searching for that juice glass. I've been focusing on vintage Christmas these last few weeks and have scored a few new things. I am searching now for one of those vintage cardboard fireplaces. I just love coming to your site to see all your awesome vintage items.
