Sunshine For The Shedores: Please Spread the Word

Happy Tuesday Everyone,

I know that you all come here to enjoy our vintage finds, but sometimes a story comes along that needs to be shared, and this is one of them.  A sweet family in my community is going through the most unimaginable of situations right now and I want to spread the word so that others can also help.  A friend from work has created the following page for the Shedore family.  Instead of telling you the story, I suggest you check out their site.  I feel like if my blog family helps to send them their kind thoughts, positive energy, and prayers, that it will be all the more helpful for them during this time.  You can find their story here:

Getting Caught Up On Last Season's Finds

Happy Monday, Everyone!

Last estate sale season, I did quite well in my vintage finds.  So well in fact that I still have a folder full of photos to show all of you.  I am going to let this folder act as a fill in until the thrifting and sales start to pick up a little better around here. It's always good to have a back up plan!

I am still finding photos of things from our girls trip to Bellingham, Washington last Summer.  The shakers and donkey planter came from an antique mall in Snohomish, WA and the little Pyrex 030 was grabbed out of Sisters hand at Goodwill!

You may or may not recall the Trick or Treat Cooky Cutters from my Halloween decorations.  Sister bought these for Maddie in Snohomish.  I picked up the valentine's from the same store.

I was pretty excited to find the Jadite collectors guide at a rare book store in Bellingham.  This book store was amazing!  I am not exaggerating when I say that my BFF, Rachel and I literally had to drag Sister out of there.  She has a major addiction to vintage books.  I also found the Betty Crocker cookbook.  Maddie has already made the sugar cookies out of it and they were AMAZING!!

I like to pick up these pint size Hazel Atlas jars whenever I find them.  They are perfect for iced tea/coffee & vodka lemonades!

On our way to Washington, we stopped at an antique mall in a small town just across the Oregon/Washington border.  This store is where my souvenir glass collection started.  I have the hardest time passing up any kind of vintage drinkware.  I wish that they would have made the graphics uglier!  The next piece of furniture that I bring into this house is going to have to be able to hold and display this growing collection.

When we got back from Washington, Maddie presented me with her thrifted finds.  She went to work with her dad one day and drug him into a SVDP.  She does pretty good on her own, doesn't she?

I hope all of you enjoyed this little catch-up session.  Who cares when I found it, right?  Everything is just as amazing as if I had found it yesterday.

It's Pink Saturday!!

Happy Pink Saturday, Everyone!

It's been a while since I have linked up over at Beverly's party.  It's a good thing that I have some pinks to show you this week!

I hate to say it, but Easter will be here before we know it!  I have a small vintage Easter collection.  I NEED MORE!!

I also found the little plastic candy container bunnies.  It is very rare that I find Pyrex at the flea market so I was happy to find the colors and patterns that I collect.  The gorgeous Royal Copley vase was more than I would normally pay for something at the flea market but for some reason, I was really drawn to it.  I actually picked it up a few months back and used it in
my Christmas decor.

Have I told you that I have started to collect Flamingo's?  It all started with the Made in Japan toothbrush holder I found when I visited Sister in Astoria last Memorial Day weekend.

This Baby New Year cutout came to me about a week late.  Oh well, maybe next year!

So not too shabby on the pinks this week, huh?  It is sooooooo cold here today.  I think it is a good day to climb under the covers, turn on the fireplace, and catch up on all of the other pinks at How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday.

Finally Some Vintage Finds & Being Recognized

Happy Thursday everyone, Hanna here.  I've had a busy week back at school, I've been really sick, but yesterday I finally felt well enough to thrift.  I haven't been finding any goodies lately, and was really needing something to turn my week around.  I quickly scooped up a few pieces of glassware that are headed straight to Ebay, but then found a few goodies for myself also.  

 A Hazel Atlas turquoise stripped glass that was in the bathroom section, I wouldn't have known to pick it up if Sister didn't have a set of red ones!  An orange chopper, it's important to keep to my color theme.  Lastly, I found a light pink Fire King mug for Sisterita, a little Valentine's Day treat.

 I also got this big square pillowcase.  I'm going to need Sister's magic to clean it, but the embroidery was so pretty.

I also picked up a few crafty little things.  The lace I have few ideas for.  More importantly is the knitting needle.  Did you know I decided to teach myself to knit over winter break?  It was a long, frustrating process involving YouTube, wine, and mischievous cats and a dog very interested in what their Mom was doing.  I haven't created anything too exciting yet, but my failed first project turned into a neck warmer for miss Marley.  Don't judge, the quality is sad, but I had to do something with this first attempt.

The most exciting part of my visit to Goodwill was when I was approached by a fellow shopper.  She asked if I was one of the Pyrex Sisters and I couldn't believe it.  Her name was Debbie and she was just the sweetest lady.  We got to chat for a little bit and it was so rewarding to meet someone who follows our blog.  We started it not thinking anything of it and we've now created this network of friends that love what we love and it is just amazing.  So, thanks Debbie for your kind words, and you're right, us Pyrex girls (and boys) need to stick together!

One last thing.  I forgot to share a piece of Pyrex that Sister got me for Christmas and so I used it last night so I could show it off.

Isn't she pretty?  Thanks Sister, I've longed for the Bluebird for a very long time.

People Can Be So Nice!

A few weeks ago, I received an email from a reader named Jilda who loves vintage Pyrex and grew up with Shiny Brite ornaments.  She definitely sounds like my kind of girl!  Anyway, she had been reading our blog and noticed that I have quite a collection of vintage Gurley candles.  She, along with her family, had begun participating in 26 Acts of Kindness in remembrance of the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary.  She found a Santa Gurley candle at a thrift store and wanted to pass it on to me as part of one of her acts.  I received Santa in the mail today.

He's huge!  I put him next to a normal size Santa candle just so you can see the difference.

Thanks again, Jilda for thinking of me.  I feel quite honored to be part of this and you have truly inspired me in my own random acts of kindness.

I'm gonna head over to A Very Cherry World for Rednesday.  Can't wait to see all of the other reds!

An Awesome Start To 2013!

Hi Everyone!

At the beginning of every year, I get the itch to start cleaning out closets, rooms, cabinets, etc..  I am not one of those people who are Spring cleaners.  Why wait?  So I have been making just about daily trips to the Goodwill and/or SVDP by my house to do drop-offs.  My reward for my charitable contributions?  Amazing vintage finds!

So a while back, I pinned this photo to my Hazel Atlas board on Pinterest

Imagine my surprise when I found these along with the Platonite custard cup

Sister says that I am predicting my finds now.  If that is true, I am going to pin every single piece of pink Pyrex I can find!

The little orphan shaker is somewhat creepy and the deer is the fourth one that we have found.  Maddie has quite a little collection of these going now.  The (non vintage) mug in the back is a prize for Sister.  Don't you love it?

Just when I had given up on ever finding even one of these Pyrex Ponderosa mugs, I find three!!

Pretty vintage pottery found at Goodwill on the 50% off table. Yay for me!

I believe that this is a newer piece of Jadeite.  Who cares, though.  It's still super pretty.

We really needed an extra gravy boat at Thanksgiving.  Although Butterfly Gold isn't my favorite pattern, at $1.50 for the set it will work for now!

I hope all of you are having good luck at the thrift stores so far this year!  Evidently, I am not the only one doing a little pre-Spring cleaning.

Back In The Swing Of Things

I was just telling Sister this morning that I feel like our little ol' blog has been being neglected.   You would think that while the kids are out of school we would be in vacation mode, right?  Wrong.  Not only are we busy with the regular day to day rituals of life, we now have a puppy thrown into the already chaotic mix.  I am really looking forward to the kids going back to school next week so that I can get some sense of normalcy back.  Working out, thrifting, and regular day to day organizing and cleaning have suddenly taken a back seat.  I have told you all of this before but I am a major creature of habit and I need a routine!  I have snuck in a little thrifting here and there though between errands so at least I have some reward for my tireless efforts as a mom/wife/puppy trainer, etc...

I love this gambling inspired Hazel Atlas ice bucket.  I find these Anchor Hocking checkered mugs quite often but never with the name of anybody I know.  My mother in law's name is Pamela so she was super excited to get this.  Ever since I started collecting vintage kitchen stuff, she has been slowly trying to acquire little bits and pieces for her kitchen too so this was perfect!

I'm one more tray closer to finding all the states. I tend to find the most of these at Goodwill.  I'm still not sure how old they are exactly.  I also found this little McCoy planter in one of the newly wheeled out bins.  Some guy asked me in line where I found it.  When I told him in the bin, he got kind of huffy and told me that he didn't think that was fair.  I see this guy all the time.  He is a dealer and not a very nice one at that.  He was just mad because I found it first and that it was only 49 cents! Maybe next time he should check out the bins first and not the jumbled up action figures in the toy section!

He also wasn't too happy to see that I found a Swanky Swig.  I guess it just wasn't his day.  This was in the display case that we were standing in front of while waiting in line!  Anybody know why they would price something for 99 cents and still feel it is valuable enough to keep in a locked case?

This box of cards was in a huge Ziploc bag along with a bunch of more current cards.  They have never been used and the graphics are still so vibrant.

I picked up this fabric a while back and it is now home in Astoria with Sister.  She has some secret project that she is going to use it for.  I had no problem letting her have this fabric after she called and told me that she needed some of my vintage tablecloths for this secret project.

Vintage tablecloths for a secret project that I am pretty sure involves some cutting?  I'll just let the following photo explain my thoughts on that whole scenario

Is anybody else having issues with Blogger?  When I go to upload photos, the Browse button is missing.  The only way that I was able to upload pictures to this post was by opening Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer.  Also, when I go to link up at The Thrifty Groove and Coloradolady, all of the link up stuff is gone.  There are no links there from other blogs and the buttons you push to enter the link party are all missing too.  Help!!!
