Wreath Making With Two Sisters & A Maddie

Happy Holidays, Friends!

After a long day selling Xylo's Truffle Oil at the Eugene Holiday Market, Sister, Maddie & I sat down for our first attempt at making a vintage ornament wreath.  Throughout the year, I have been buying up just about every reasonably priced box of old ornaments that I could get my hands on in anticipation of this project.  My office looked like an explosion at the Shiny Brite factory.  After seeing this, Sister was convinced that she was going to have to enroll me in some sort of 12-step program.  But once our two wreaths were done, she completely understood just why I had so many.  Those wreaths take a ton of ornaments!

Maddie was a huge help in this project.  Her job was to go through the ornaments and pick the ones that she thought we should use.  She was also the designated photographer which is why you only see her in one photo. I think that she had the most important jobs!  She also may have gone a little overboard on the picture snapping but I will let you be the judge of that.

Here you go, everybody.  Our first documented craft project. Enjoy!

One thing that we were able to learn was that you need to pick up some newer ornaments in colors you like for the inside and the bottom level.  These will mostly be covered up but since they work as a base, they need to be sturdier than vintage ornaments.  We also spray painted the foam wreath just in case little parts of it ended up showing through.

Then we just starting piling the ornaments on.  Its amazing how many you will use and all of the different things you can add.
Another thing we learned is to add your hanging ribbon FIRST!  It was a little tricky but we managed to get it on after we were about halfway done but I don't recommend anyone trying this at home.  See that guy in the background?  That is our "Supervisor", my husband Brian.
What a disaster.
Oh no!  Our glasses are empty!
Another Pomegranate Champagne Cocktail to the rescue! Recipe to follow.

 Okay, where next?

 How about here, Sisterita?

 How touching....

 Almost done...

Strike a pose, Sister!

Ready for some close-ups of my finished wreath?

Not bad for our first attempt, don't you think?  I'm sure Sister will be sharing her equally amazing finished product with you all this week.

  1. I love ornament wreaths and I'm so glad you showed how to begin with a base of strong ornaments on the outside and inside!! Oh my goodness these are so beautiful. Isn't it great to have a sister with a shared passion.

  3. GREAT JOB girls!!! The wreath turned out amazing! I love that you added so many little extras like the santa mug and gurleys! And this whole time you pretended that you couldn't do crafty stuff! lol Really though, making those wreaths is very fun, but kind of intense compared to anything else I've ever made. I had to think a lot! haha Not something I'm used to when I'm at my art table!
You guys rocked it! Hey, I don't see a pic of Maddie??
We drink those cocktails at my aunts house each year for x-mas, and she has always called them "Pointsettas". So good!

  4. I love that name! I think we will start calling them Poinsettas too. You will see Maddie in Hanna's post. She was really intent on getting enough pictures:-)

  6. Well done! I attempted this once years ago and it did not go well. Glue gun issues. Hopefully the glue gun industry had made some advancements since then. Either way -- your wreath is spectacular!!

  10. Looks great! Love the Christmas ornament overload... wish I would have been there. Probably wouldn't have helped, just would have drank the cocktails & made sassy comments about what was on TV.
