What We Found at Portland's Largest Garage Sale

Hi Everyone!

It's been a long day.  I finally just got a chance to sit down after working outside all morning and afternoon.  We are going to be having some really nice and warm weather here over the next few days so I have to take advantage when I can. We have a graduation party here in less than 6 weeks and fingers crossed it will be nice enough where we can have it outside.  But this is Oregon.  You never know...

The morning after Plucky Maidens, Hanna, our mom, Maddie, and I headed to Portland's Largest Garage Sale.  None of us had ever been before and the advertising promised antiques along with other garage sale type items from over 600 vendors.  We had the whole day with nothing planned so we figured why not?

When we first walked in the door, there were two vendors side by side each with booths full of vintage kitchen stuff.  I told Hanna "This is gonna be good".

I already had the same version of this little doll only she is wearing a red dress.  I hope to come across the whole set of them someday.  For now, this cutie with the pale pink dress looks right at home next to her sister.

Can't pass up vintage tablecloths, especially when they are $3 apiece.  I was super surprised to open up the pink floral one to find it to be an Iowa souvenir!

Souvenir glass jackpot!  Surprisingly, I didn't already have any of these.  I wasn't sure but for a dollar apiece, I took the risk.

I haven't found a bread box in a really long time.  Aren't the strawberries so sweet?

It is so hard for me to pass up canisters.  And long time readers of our blog will surely recognize the Blakely Oil Cactus glass next to it.  I have the pitcher, all of the glasses, and now the cocktail shaker!

My last treasure I paid a whopping quarter for.  It's a pink Wonder Cup in the original box.  I remember my mom having one of these when I was younger.

So I would describe this Garage Sale as more of a flea market.  Lots and lots of stuff, both newer and old as well as vendors selling things like vitamin supplements and Scentsy products.  It took us a good two hours to get all the way through.  Prices were all over the place.  I saw one of the exact souvenir glasses that I paid a dollar for in another booth for $9.  They hold this event a couple of times a year and I plan on going back to the next one.

Until next time...

Erica's Plucky Finds

Good Morning!

As Hanna mentioned in her last post, last weekend was a whirlwind of junk hunting.  Per the norm, I ended up with way more than she did so my posts are going to have to be broken down just a little bit more so that I don't bombard you with everything all at once.  My house is bigger and my husband is a little more tolerant so I tend to buy a lot more.

I love going to the Plucky Maidens shows.  I never miss them.  My only complaint is that I wish they were bigger!  I can get through the whole thing in less than an hour, usually less.  But I always find good stuff, even if I have to hunt a little harder.  Plus, they serve booze.  Enough said.

Maddie found herself another piggy bank for her collection out of a dollar box along with the smallest of the Lustro Ware scoops.  I found the larger size at the flea market a few weeks ago.  I think there are three total in the set so I am still on the hunt.  The first thing I bought were the two red floral Swanky Swigs.  I have a pretty big collection of these glasses but none with this particular graphic.

Eagle Eye Maddie spotted this $3 grab bag of vintage candles for another one of her collections.

The mug rack is destined for some chalk paint and the Arizona dish towel is faded but still cute!

Hanna showed you all the Alice in Wonderland journal that Maddie picked out for her. The Golden Book of Gardening is the one I got for myself.  I also picked up two tape holders for my collection and the globe bank I got from the same booth that Hanna got her awesome $8 full size globe.

So that's it for Plucky finds.  A small haul but enough to make me happy.  We got to spend a tiny amount of time visiting with Laurie & Amy plus Maddie and I were able to add to our ever growing collections.  Can't complain about that!

Next time.....my Portland's Largest Garage Sale scores!

Some Plucky and Portland Finds

Wow!  What a week!  Hanna here.  I think I may still be recovering from a busy weekend with Erica, Maddie, and our Mom.  We did some serious vintage shopping and had such a great time but this week is now just dragging by.  Our weekend was filled with Plucky Maidens, thrift stores, antique malls, boot shops, malls, you name it, we did it.  I've become more selective in my purchases, as my poor little house is bursting at the seams and I don't really want Matt to divorce me.  I do have some fun things to share, so here we go!
First from Plucky.  The graphics on this hat box are phenomenal!
I was sold when I saw the lid.  If you look closely, there is a sweet little deer above the Great Lakes.
And another view.  I haven't quite decided what I'm going to do with it, but it is definitely going somewhere where I can see it daily.
The globe craze has obviously hit Portland.  I saw so many globes last weekend, like probably 50+, I'm not joking.  Most were priced from $20-$80.  I picked this one up at Plucky for $8.  It's not in the best shape but the price was just right.
I really love the sunrise and sunset detail on top.  I haven't done any research about this one yet, but its marked Replogle Chicago.  Any of you globe people out there have any information for me?

I wish I could say this came home with me!  It was so tempting!  As some of you know, I was a fish and wildlife major in college and I am a lover of nature, field guides, and anything vintage from a classroom.  This was from a classroom in the Netherlands and was seriously so cool!  I should have got it, I will never see one like it again.  I may never forgive myself.
I picked up some new drinking glasses, I think Erica is rubbing off on me.  The 2 red ones came from the giant garage sale at the Portland Expo Center.  The orange flower glass is of course my favorite color and I have a thing for sailboats (its looks great with my McKee sailboat collection.)

My sweet Sister picked up this pixie planter for me that is just so cute and tiny.  I grabbed these Gurley mushrooms at Stars Antique Mall to mix in with all my woodland creatures.  No matter how hard I try, I still keep bringing Berggren Trayner stuff home.  This is the 6th tile I've purchased but still haven't figured out what to do with.  This one says, "You can never have too much wine or Pyrex."  Or at least that's what I told Matt it says!
Maddie and Erica also got me a few things.  The Alice in Wonderland is a journal with pages from the book at the beginning and end of it.  Maddie got one too, but a different year.  They came from an awesome booth at Plucky Maidens.  Maddie also found me a new bird book to add to my collection, she has such a great eye for things that I love!

That's it for me.  Only a few things, but I'm super excited about them.  There are two estate sales tomorrow morning that I'm headed to, so lets hope for some more fun finds.

On The Way Out of Town...

On Friday, Maddie and I headed out early to go and pick up my mom so that we could all head up to Portland to spend the weekend with Hanna.  But before we left, I wanted to stop at an estate sale.  It started at 9:00 so we got there promptly at 8:30 and were number 3 on the list.

The sale was a combination of 2 estates and was full of more vintage goodness than I have seen at a sale in a really long time.

Be prepared....I bought a lot of stuff.  Hope you enjoy the pics!

Straight to the kitchen area (of course) and this was the first thing I saw.  I knew it was going to be a good sale!

Drink caddy full of Hazel Atlas turquoise glasses.  Maddie found this Pelican Cooler Thermos and was so proud of herself!

I see these scales from time to time at the thrift but have always passed them up.  The aqua ice maker is just like the pink one I found at an estate sale a couple of years ago.

This old cupboard door is destined for a project.  Any suggestions?

I always grab the old Atlas jars, especially if they have the HA logo on them.  I passed by the McCoy planter on the way to the kitchen area and was surprised to see that nobody had grabbed it when I saw it again about 15 minutes later.  Although I don't normally pick up milk glass, I really liked these candle holders and figure they would be cute for a Spring centerpiece.

I've started a small collection of vintage cowboy things and figured this old fruitcake tin would fit in with my display pretty nicely.

Maddie brought me this chopper and fired on dessert cup.  She has got a good eye!

She also found the old Yahtzee dice and cup along with the Dominoes game.  The bunny planter will have to be put away until next year.

I bought the old coffee jar because I thought the graphics would be perfect for the 4th of July.  The Thermoware bowl will be good for Summer.  I wish I could have found more!

I also picked up some vintage Tupperware.  The covered containers are great for marinating!

I have a big stack of these frames just waiting to be painted.

Isn't this stack of sheets and pillowcases so pretty and Springy?

At this point, I thought I was done.  At the beginning of the sale, one of the people giving it told us all that nothing was priced but that they would give us a really good deal because they wanted to get rid of everything.  I have bought lots of things from this particular company before so I knew they would be true to their word.  So when I went to pay, the lady behind the table asked me if it would be okay if she just gave me a bulk price of $20.00.  Uh, yes!

So after Maddie & I loaded up the car, I decided to do one more walk through just to make sure I hadn't missed anything in my first frenzy.  The first thing I spotted was what looked to be an untouched Rubbermaid container with linens in it shoved under a table.

I found this set of 4 napkins

And this stack of pretty embroidered pillowcases.

And all of these amazing tablecloths.

But the best part of the whole sale was when a super nice patron of the sale let me have all of this because he was more a collector of Fire King...

The 401 and 402 from the Blue Americana set.

And an unmarked blue 401, Blue Stripe 401, and two small bowls from the Hostess set.

He has some good karma heading his way!

So once again, the sellers gave me a bulk price on all of the linens and Pyrex.  Ready for it?  8 bucks.

Needless to say, I was late picking up my mom because I had to drive back home to unload my car.  But I was so giddy, I didn't care!

Next time, Plucky finds!
