A Few Finds From the Oregon Coast

Happy Friday!  Hanna here.  I wont be going to any sales today because I am proctoring state testing, I'm so sad.  But, last Friday I couldn't stand it and drove down to Seaside for an estate sale that sounded pretty good.  I stewed over the sale all morning, knowing I had a lot to do at work, but finally I couldn't take it any longer (I must having withdrawals due to my recent vacation to the Caribbean.)  I bit the bullet and made the 25 minute drive.  I got there 45 minutes early, figuring that I would have a decent spot in line.  But, guess what?  They opened the sale early.  I walked up the driveway and watched as one of the sale regulars loaded down the back of their truck.  Now, I wasn't mad by any means, just disappointed.  I know that some day this will happen to me, and I will get an amazing haul from a sale, but today was not the day.  I only purchased two things and spent a whopping $1.25.
I paid 25 cents for the white Corning bowl.  It is a little boring but I've never seen anything like it before.  Does anyone know more about it?  I also bought this awesome bottle.
It is the perfect shade of light purple.  I'm not sure what it was for exactly, but is a super cool addition to my collection.

Disappointed, and it only being 8:45, I decided to head to a garage sale that was also advertised in town.  No vintage goodies there, but I did buy a bunch of dahlia tubers and hops starts.  Only on the Oregon Coast, I swear!

I decided that my luck was so bad, that I would stop at the GW on my drive home.  I found a surprise for both Erica and me there!
I just love planters!  The bird planter is actually a wall pocket and I think I'm going to put it up in my bathroom.  You loyal readers all know how the saying goes, "No Donkey Left Behind."  I feel like I should make t-shirts for us.  Anyway, this one is a little cuter then some of the others that I've found Erica and it is Lefton, so I figured she would be  happy.
You may have noticed the pretty tablecloth in the background.  This beauty came from a sale a few weeks back.  I used Erica's magic and soaked it in Oxi-Clean probably 12 different times to get the stains out.  Well, the hard work paid off.  This is hands down the prettiest table cloth I've ever found and it fits my dining room table.
Last, but not least, I wanted to share my vacation souvenirs!  Matt and I spent a week in St. Thomas over our Spring Break.   It was a phenomenal trip and I can't wait to go back.  We stayed in the town of Red Hook which happened to have an "antique" store.  It was more of a mix of junk, with a few over-priced goodies.  I saw these shakers and knew they would be a perfect piece to bring home and was so happy when I picked them up and saw them marked Holt Howard.  I managed to get the woman working down quite a bit, who admitted the owners prices were silly.  There was also a set of vintage pink Le Creuset pans that were so pretty, but that would have been a heavy thing to pack home!

I'm on the count down because next Friday Erica, Maddie, and our Mom will be meeting me in Portland for Plucky Maidens and a weekend of sales and shopping.  It is going to be awesome!

Always a Pleasure,
Hanna

  2. If that Corning bowl is the same as mine, it's huge and pretty heavy. I have a half dozen of them I use for soup and large salads. I have an original ad that dates these to around 1945 - and I've read comments on flickr photo's that these were used in military mess halls.

I would have died seeing that pink Le Creuset, but getting home with it would have been another story. I have all the enameled cast iron that I really need, but I still get tempted by new pieces. I saw a tulip decorated blue DRU Holland at a thrift the other day that pained me to pass up, but I really didn't need it, and at 35 dollars, I've actually bought cheaper cast iron at TJ Maxx. :-/

    Good luck at Plucky Maidens!

  3. Going from The Caribbean to state testing - what a bummer! To bad the estate sale sucked. You did pretty good at the thrifts though, do that's a win. And those pineapple shakers are wonderful! What a fun souvenir. Hope you guys have fun at Plucky Maidens! I want to go to that one so bad!
