It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year....

Well, I know it's not Christmas but between you and me, estate sale season is the most wonderful time of the year!

Last weekend I went to a total of 5 sales and bought something from 4 of them.  They were pretty spread out across my area so I probably spent more time driving then at the actual sales.  Plus, every single one of them was in the country which are always good sales, at least for me.

Books for Miss Maddie

Books for me:-)

Isn't this a clever way to store ornaments, in strawberry containers?

I am not a big fan of the Shenandoah pattern but I don't think these bowls were ever used and for 2 bucks I would have been crazy to pass them up.

I normally stay away from vintage green glass.  I collect the Jeannette Doric pattern of depression glass in pink but this little green pitcher really caught my eye.  It's perfect and I love the color!  Does anybody know anything about it?  The shortening can will be part of my Summer/4th of July decor and I have been wanting one of these old door knobs forever but never have found one at a price I was willing to pay.  You can bet I was willing to pay $2.00 for this one.

I got all of these things at an estate sale that actually started about 3 hours prior.  There wasn't a whole lot left but I did manage to snag everything in the picture.  I'm bummed I didn't get to the sale earlier because I paid a whopping $6.50 for the aqua pottery vase, vintage wastebasket, rooster juice glass, orphan bird shaker, and strawberry dish towel. Oh well, at least there were some things left for me.

At the last sale of the day, I picked up some holiday postcards.  I have quite a few vintage flower frogs (you know, the spiky ones) and these are great to display with them.

I got Maddie a jar of colorful buttons.  One of these days, maybe she will actually do something with them!

This is the second thermos that I have come across that I've really liked in the past several weeks.  Every time I see these, I'm reminded of Stacey from The Gluten Free Pastor's Wife.  She likes to display them on her porch during the holidays. Well along with my 4th of July one, I now have one for Christmas!

Not too bad of a haul for only 4 sales plus there was Pyrex so I really can't complain!  I'll be back at it after I drop Maddie off at school Friday morning.  Wish me luck and also send some good luck Hanna's way that she will actually have sales to go to in Astoria!

Linking up with Jann over at Share Your Cup Thursday.

Until next time.....

Erica

  1. Oh gosh, the "they were only $2, how could I not?" has gotten me into a lot of trouble.

There was an article in Vice Magazine about a girl who was obsessed with buttons. She had thousands upon thousands of buttons & she wanted to collect every button in the world (we all have our ambitions, huh?). I guess I only remember this because of the buttons & I just pulled out my Vice magazine collection to put on KIJIJI. Hope it sells.. 300,000+ SQ FT total of antique markets (not including thrift stores) in a few weeks.

  4. I'm cracking up... I saw that thermos pic and went nuts and then I saw the caption. HAHA! I JUST today decided to try something and put ALL my thermos out there at once. Not sure if I'm a fan, but wanted to try it. I LOVE that thermos!!!! I haven't seen it before, now I am on the hunt. I love the Holiday ones the most. Great finds!

  5. Great haul. I'm like you, even if it is not one of my favorite patterns, I will buy any Pyrex in good shape at a good price. I just can't seem to walk away.

  7. The estate sales in your area sound neat, clean and organized. We have many here in upstate NY, but some you come out of feeling like you need a bath. They are fast and the time is short to look and lately they are crowded. I'm trying to learn where they take the donations after the sale. A lot of it ends up at the local thrifts and sometimes for better prices. Great finds and the conditions are awesome. I'll see how garage sales go.

  9. Wow! I'm in envy! So cute, neat stuff. You joined my Followers recently...I just started a (rinky dinky) Linky party for vintage items just like this. Maybe you'll post there too.

  11. Hm...now that you mention it, I did notice more estate sales popping up. Which made me just realize...do more people die this time of year? O___O !? Haha, but anyway, excellent scores. I love children's books.

  13. I am thinking the green pitcher is made by Jeannette Glass.. and it being their Hex Optic Honeycomb pattern... Jeannette also is the maker of the Doric pattern too.

  14. That Thermos is the cutest thing ever. I was thinking the same thing recently - much as I love Christmas, I love how the sales start and the flowers pop and birds start singing all at the same time, right now!

  15. Erica, I am always so anxious to see what goodies you find each week. Love the shortening can and the thermos. I pick them up whenever I run across them. Plaid of course, is my favorite. I have a pitcher that has that exact shape but mine is vaseline glass. Love it and the Pyrex too! I also adore vintage postcards to display in my frogs. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
