What Next?

Hi There!

There has been quite a lot of craziness going on in the Rogers' household.  Right after I finished packing to go see my sister on Thursday, I got a phone call from Brian telling me that my mother-in-law had to have emergency oral surgery on Friday morning.  Well, there went my weekend babysitter!!  She told me that she would be fine and that we should just go to Astoria and not worry about things.  Uh, no.  Leave my kids with a MIL under the influence of prescribed narcotics?  Bad, bad idea.

Alex's homecoming was also last weekend.  Brian said he had a feeling that Alex was conspiring something like an after party at our house.  Again, NO!!  So it just didn't seem like the best weekend to leave town.  Luckily, Hanna agreed with me.  She is all too aware of what kind of chaos could have happened had I left.

Then, I woke up Saturday morning with Brian's cold.  Awesome.  I'm the mom.  I can't get sick.  Sunday, my 11 month old German Shepherd Bullet cut his foot and now has to have it stitched up tomorrow.  Oh, and while we are at it, we may as well have him fixed too since they have to sedate him anyways!!  And this just isn't a regular male dog neutering.  Essentially, due to something called an undescended testicle, he has to get spayed like a female dog.  It's only Monday, people!!!!

Okay, enough of that.  Let's get on to the rest of my junk haul from Thursday's estate sales.

The only reason that I can think of for buying the Reno souvenir coffee cup is that it is gambling related and that reminds me of my sister.  I got the ice cube trays for my mother-in-law since she is always saying how much she likes mine.  I have been finding these glass measuring cups like crazy lately.  I spend a lot of time in the kitchen so I can always justify buying them.

I am in love with the smaller version of the Lustro Ware bread box.  I have it sitting on my Pyrex cabinet holding cupcake wrappers.  The turquoise bread box has the exact same decal as the tins that Hanna bought me for Christmas.

The 2 quart Flamingo utility dish and Gooseberry 502 (with lid!) are duplicates for me.  You didn't really think I would leave them behind, did you?

Jars around here are getting way out of hand price wise.  These are the first reasonably priced ones that I have found in forever.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do with this library drawer?  I actually found two of them.

This is the second one of these art deco style jars that I have found.  I love how it is tall and narrow.  I have always wanted to start collecting sour cream glasses so imagine how stoked I was to find my very first one and it came with the lid!!!  The pottery vase is unmarked and super heavy.

I love Thursday estate sales.  Normally, if they start on Thursday, they go through the whole weekend because there is just so much stuff!!  I'm pretty sure that I brought my fair share of the goods home.  So far I've been getting my wish that the Fall sales make up for the lack of the Summer ones.

  2. Get well soon! The drawer looks more sewing machine drawer than library, but it is hard to tell from down here in Louisiana ;) Folded fabric scraps, or cloth table napkins, or folded any kind of colorful cloth would look great in the drawers. Linda@Wetcreek Blog

  3. Oh wow! Good haul. No rarer Pyrex around here, but I did bounce from work early today because I was ticked off and found a vintage t-shirt that sells on eBay for $50-$100 (The Cure).. so I am gonna treat myself in Ohio later this month. You can't even find Pyrex in antique markets here (well I can't, somehow everyone else can). I only found one other thing.

Hope you feel better! Sick sucks!!
If he was planning a party, he must have been ticked off.

BTW, glad Robie brought back a good memory for you.

  4. Bummer your weekend plans did not work out the way they were planned. At least you still found some goodies! Teen parties are no fun for parents ALEX...I will have to tell you the story of Ben's party when we were away for the weekend. Never again!
    Get rid of that cold!

  7. Great finds. I love the drawer, is it deep enough to mount on the wall as a box shelf?

  8. I really love those bread boxes! And I have that same pink Pyrex cake pan (that's what I call mine), I use it all the time. I hope you'll link this up to my new link party, We Call It Olde, week 2 just started today. Hope to see you there! -Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com

  9. That's quite a haul! I really like the turquoise bread box and the sour cream glass, and blue is not even a color that I am drawn to. You did well!
Too bad your weekend plans had to be scrapped, but I agree that staying home was the right move. My dog had the same issue as Bullet, we had him neutered in June and needed the abdominal surgery due to the undescended testicle (which they found easily, I was told that sometimes they really need to search for it!), recovery took a bit longer but it went well. Good luck to you and Bullet! :)

  10. Bummer. I just hate that deflated feeling when fun plans are canceled. What a cool little drawer!
I've seen some really cute drawer ideas- I'd hit up Pinterest!

I wonder if I'll ever have Pyrex duplicates...
Maybe when I'm old and grey... wait! I already am!

  12. Love the sour cream glass. I have a few big ones that unfortunately, are a little bit dishwashered.
Hope you feel better. And hope Bullet takes his surgery with aplomb!

  13. I found some vintage sewing machine drawers a while back. I used them as containers for Christmas arrangements. I filled them with bottle brush trees and some sweet little accents. The rectangle shape was perfect to put in a forest of trees. I gave them as Christmas gifts to my family and they were a big hit. In fact, my sister-in-law won't put hers away.

  14. I love that tall glass! Cool shape.

I bought one of those sewing machine drawers at a yard sale once. The woman had nailed two of those little sawtooth picture hangers to the back and she had some little plants inside it (the bottom was all warped from the water). I thought that was a cute idea!

  18. Oh, one of those week when you wonder why you get out of bed! My last dog had that same undescended thing and had that surgery too, poor babies.

Love your little bread box, and that deco style jar is great. Everything is great! :) Pam

  19. Great finds, all of them! Now a question: do you find that the aluminum ice cube trays work well for you? I wanted some so badly and then finally found one at a thrift store and it didn't really work. It didn't appear broken but the handle was impossible to pull up so the cubes didn't pop out. Did I just get a bum one? Should I try again? And I'd use those drawers for jewelry or accessories, hang them on the wall and the knobs can be used for hanging necklaces or bracelets. I love old drawers. Those look like they might have come from a sewing cabinet.

  20. Booo! So sorry that things went down hill! :(
Hopefully your week is starting to look up by now. I love the turquoise bread box the most! This is bad though...I've actually bed spending time revisiting your posts about the major x-mas haul of last year! The one where you got everything for $20!!!! That's how bad of a x-mas addict I am! :) Erica

  28. I found one blue ball jar with the zinc lid like your pictured ones at our local mission store awhile back. It was 4.00 but I saw them going for anywhere from 9.99 to 14.99 on Ebay :)

  29. That turquoise bread box is pretty amazing. I did not know that a dog could have an undescended testicle! That is so weird. Hope this weekend is going to be more relaxing for you.

  30. Well hell! That's such a bummer! Dang teenagers...they frighten me. And dang cold, silly dog, and freaking emergency surgery! Hope she's alright! Love that little bread box.
    Hope you're feeling better too!

  31. I've seen the drawers hung vertically on the cupboards next to the kitchen sink; put a doily in and a tall narrow vintage-y looking glass bottle with some personality and instant cute!
